Online Bachelor's Degrees in Technology Management
Bachelors Degree - Technology Management
A Bachelors Degree in Technology Management will prepare you for career advancement in professional or technical fields.  A two year degree or certification in a professional or technical field is required and job experience in this area is also recommended before you enroll in a technical management program.

Professional and technical areas that are generally considered acceptable as prerequisites for this degree are health, veterinary medicine, fire science, clinical science, natural science, fine arts, agriculture, architecture, aviation, manufacturing, engineering, criminal justice, or a wide variety of technical concentrations, including computer science.

Technology management is the combination of specific technical skills with the expertise of business management and leadership skills.  In addition to the technical skills of their profession, a technology manager will have a solid understanding of business, finance, accounting, and marketing as it relates to their industry.   A Bachelors Degree in Technology Management will help you advance to a management position within your chosen field of technology.

Earning a degree in technology management will provide you with the opportunity to learn how to lead a company or department through planning, organization, problem solving, communication, and decision making.  You will also learn to increase productivity and efficiency through the understanding of group dynamics.   Technology management will also cover the application of law and financial analysis within a business, service, or manufacturing environment.  You will learn the importance of marketing and identifying and forecasting trends in your industry.   In short, you will learn how to run the business which produces the product or service in which you are professionally or technically trained.

In a technology management degree program, all of your classes will be upper division and focus mainly on business management classes.  A two year degree in your area of technical or professional expertise is required.  You must have also completed introductory classes generally required by an associate’s degree including English Composition, Speech, Algebra, Sociology, Biology, Humanities, Statistics, and Introduction to Computers.   Upper division classes will include Introduction to Information Technology, Technical and Professional Communication, Principles of Management, Business Communications, Introduction to Financial Accounting, Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics, Managerial Decision Making, Business Law, Principles of Marketing, Elementary Statistics with Computer Applications, Business Ethics, Quantitative Methods for Business, Management of Organizational Behavior , Business Policy and Strategy, and Finance.

Since technology management can also refer more specifically to an information technology career, students who are looking to become managers of computer networks and information systems will need to concentrate much more heavily on computer science as they will be directing computer programmers and technicians in order to maintain a company’s networks and systems.

Career Opportunities for Technology Managers
Career opportunities for technology managers will be the ability to advance in their technical or professional area of expertise.  So, for example, if you studied aviation as a technical discipline in your first two years of college, you can become an airport manager with this degree.  A health professional like a nurse can become a medical clinic supervisor.  If you are a working professional who already has an associate’s degree, you can advance to a managerial position in any field with a technology management bachelor’s degree.  Companies must have well-qualified technology management professionals to carry out strategic plans in order to remain competitive in a global marketplace and this degree in an ideal way to get one of those jobs.
